A new site for a new era

Over the next few days, Microsoft will be holding their new //Build/ conference – a replacement event for the traditional Professional Developers Conference (PDC) that they run in September/October.

This event has the promise to be a game-changing one for Microsoft for several reasons:
1. For once, they have kept completely radio silent about what they will reveal – copying a very successful trick that Apple mastered years ago. The hype has really built up excitement.
2. They have an opportunity to change perception from MS being a slow-moving leviathan, to once again being an “innovator” and market leader.
3. A single SKU Windows 8, that runs across “three screens” and offers “App Store”-style modules and apps would completely change the landscape for app development – why develop for the iOS installed base when suddenly you can target all Windows desktops, mobile phones and even TV screens via XBOX?

To take advantage of an 11-hour flight from the UK to the West Coast, I’ve redesigned the site and changed the layout. Over the next few days I’ll be blogging live from the //BUILD/ event, and in the weeks that follow I’ll be migrating across any old content that is still relevant from the previous incarnation of the site.

Thanks for visiting!

Paul
